The Bob Moog Foundation (BMF) serves to carry Bob Moog's legacy forward through our mission of educating and inspiring children and adults through through the power and possibilities of electronic music and through the intersection of music, science and innovation. We achieve that mission through amazing events like moogfest 2010, and through our three projects:
MoogLab Student Outreach Program - We bring Moog instruments into the schools to teach kids the science behind electronic music. Although still in the pilot stages, this program has proven to be wildly successful with students and teachers alike. Moog instruments provide an ideal interface to teach kids about the basic physics of sound, and we intend to use them to inspire children all over the world.
Archive Preservation Initiative - The BMF is preserving and restoring Bob Moog's extensive and historic archives, which span a variety of mediums including instruments, prototypes, photos, schematics, articles, project notes, reel-to-reel tapes and more. The archives are in delicate condition, and require substantial preservation efforts. We received two grants from the Grammy Foundation to restore the reel-to-reel tapes, which are the most fragile medium in the collection.
Moogseum - Our halmark project, the Moogseum is planned to be an innovative, interactive facility where Bob Moog's spirit comes alive through the intersection of music, science and innovation. At the Moogseum, our educational and historical projects will converge in a state-of-the-art facility that will be a force and resource for music and science education. The Moogseum is a $3-5 million project. We have received a $600,000 lead grant from the Buncombe County Tourism Product Development Authority, but significant funding is still needed. Construction of the Moogseum is projected for 2014, pending needed funding.
